After enforced periods of social isolation and long hours of working alone, talking to people face to face again almost seems like a luxury! It’s important to be aware that COVID-19 is still with us, and that although movements are becoming more relaxed, we still need to be diligent with hygiene and safety, ourselves and that of others.

Face to face interviews

If you need to employ new staff yes, you are able to hold face-to-face interviews again where appropriate (check your state or territory guidelines for this). Remember to maintain recommended social distance guidelines at all times, as well as providing hand sanitizer where applicable.

If you are inviting people onto your premises for interview you have the right to ask them whether they are experiencing cold or flu like symptoms or have a temperature, or have been in contact with someone with a confirmed case of COVID-19 or travelled overseas in the last 14 days.

With all this in mind you might find it easier to hold interviews via video conferencing.

Staff meetings

As we discussed in our post on RISK ASSESSMENTS, you are able to do so provided you can maintain a safe social distancing environment. You may find that, for larger group meetings, it’s easier to conduct over video conferencing. Smaller meetings with only a couple of people will depend on the nature of the meeting space and the needs of your business and employees.

The same rules apply here to directing staff to have face-to-face meetings with clients. All employees need to be aware of the appropriate guidelines as put in place following your risk assessment, and sign off on their agreement.

We want to hold an office event to celebrate being back in the office. Is this allowed?

This will depend on the restrictions currently in your area. If gatherings are permitted, the usual social distancing measures should be followed to minimise the risk of infection.
